Let me start by saying that I don't really know technical terms so please excuse that ;-)
I bought a used trailer that didn't come with an adapter for the power cord. This is the cord that would hook up to shore power or a generator. I've been looking for an adapter but haven't had much luck. Camping World has a few but I'm not exactly sure what I'm looking for and I don't know anything about the amps.
This is what the cord looks like. people.tribe.net/meliza/ph...e38ed99dd7
And the info next to it says "This connection is for 110/125 Volt AC. 60 HZ. A picture of it is here people.tribe.net/meliza/ph...7f415673f2
These are the adapters I'm looking at www.campingworld.com/shoppin...ers/4134
Can someone suggest an adapter that would let me hook up a regular extension cord to it?
Thanks so much!

Re: Need Adapter Help
Thu, July 30, 2009 - 9:08 AMThat's the adapter allright.
And if you are also using an extension cord , get a heavy duty one , especially if you are running a microwave or AC.
Guage #? Paul or Mindfunk?

Re: Need Adapter Help
Thu, July 30, 2009 - 12:43 PMyou should use at least a 12awg cord (rated for 20 amps) or bigger depending on the length you need to run it. however...the adapter is only rated for 15amps....see if you can find a 20amp instead if you really want to use the AC whilst plugged into 'shore' power -

Re: Need Adapter Help
Fri, July 31, 2009 - 10:38 AMsome times they are called appliance cords if they are short....
and dont get a long one just be cause you might need one... get a reasonable length... some thing like 25 or 50ft..
the longer it is the more voltage drop their will be and things will start to heat up..
those plug adaptors that your going to get?? if you run a high load like an AC unit... the adaptor will get hot and some times melt...
this is why the other plug is bigger and beefer..
RV parks will have the correct plug to plug into so use that.... but at home.. or on genny... watch it all and make sure its not heating up.
put your hand around the ends of the cord... if its getting too hot to touch.... your going to have problems....
if you leave the AC off while using this plug adaptor... you should be fine.

Re: Need Adapter Help
Mon, August 10, 2009 - 10:01 PMjust an fyi for those who don't know much about this sort of thing....thing bigger the number, the smaller the wire, ie, 14ga(AWG) is smaller than 12 ga.

Re: Need Adapter Help
Mon, August 10, 2009 - 11:11 PMIf you're running an A/C and hooking up to a grid, you want a 10ga cord, get them from Home Depot. They're bright yellow, and heavy. If you can get close enough to the junction box with the RV cord itself, that's a better way to go. -

Re: Need Adapter Help
Mon, August 17, 2009 - 8:43 PMIf you melted one , was it a 15 amp or 20 amp like Paul was mentioning earlier? And does Camping World or the big stores like Home Depot carry the 20 amp ones ?
I have a couple of different types but some do not have amp ( or any other kind of ) markings. -

Re: Need Adapter Help
Tue, August 18, 2009 - 5:00 AMas previously stated the gauge of the wire determines load, I know HD carries 12 and 10, perhaps even 8 on special order, at least in my area, or any construction supply house does as well. Remeber length will also impact ability to handle amperage with a bigger guage wire. -

Re: Need Adapter Help
Tue, August 18, 2009 - 1:42 PMit should often be mentioned that the adaptor point is where they melt, i use a 30 amp extention cord available at any rv store and run that all the way to the plug, this is a 10 gage extention with big "range" plugs on it, the adapter goes right to the wall andd the breaker trips before anything ever heats up
