  • Use Ebay for comparing prices

    Thu, March 15, 2007 - 1:35 PM
I'd go to Ebay, click on Advanced Search, and enter only "rv" in the search box, then go down to price limits, and put in something comparable in the upper limit box, e.g. search "$1000.00" as a lower price limit (that'll keep you from getting thousands of useless results for things like rv door handles or awnings) and "$5500.00" as an upper limit. Don't enter anything in the box for geographic area, so as to get more items for price comparison. I bet you'll get hundreds of results--- and I'm guessing that will include at least a hundred rvs in the size you want, for a much lower price. But many will not have been maintained as well as this one and/or will not have service records etc, as it sounds like this one does. But you'll have far more detailed, quantitative info than you have now, by which to compare. Good luck!

Thanks for the input. It is very much appreciated. I will try the ebay suggestion! Weird that NADA doesn't have it listed. I wonder if this means the people are mistaken; or if NADA simply doesn't have everything in its guide. What do you think? I guess a simple 30' measuring tape will answer the question this morning when I go to check it out..... I'll keep you all posted, 'cause one way or another me and !OhnO! are hitting the playa in the style and full plush comfort of an RV this year!

      Thanks

      Chris

The problem will be with the seller. A coach that is 27' long would never have a 400 engine. Way too small for the weight.

You are correct! The seller was wrong on the length. Which leads me to think they are asking a little too much. We went and saw it and test drove it, and for now we are waiting. They seem sure that it will sell this weekend...maybe so, but there will be other RV's out there. If nothing else we have learned a ton about RV's and what to look for this weekend. One thing we learned is that really low mileage isn't always a good thing in an RV, as it indicates it has sat a lot. While this may be good for the engine, it also means that there may still be a host of problems related to age that are just waiting to happen when it starts to be driven. Anyhow, we continue our search to fulfill our destiny of arriving at the playa in RV splendor! Thanks for all your help

I bet it takes them a month to sell and for an offer of around say $4400 at best. At a price close to 6 grand I think you could get into a early nineties rig from a motivated seller.

Yeah. You may be right. From what I gather they have had three interested parties come by since we saw it, and none have even made an offer. They have changed there ad to reflect that it is a 24 footer, which STILL may or may not be right considering what you found in the NADA guide. One thing that we really didn't like was the sleeping arrangements in the RV. All of the beds were clumped together in the front. I have seen many comparably sized RV's for sale that have floor plans with a dedicated sleeping area in the rear. This provides at least a false sense of privacy if we choose to share our space at Burningman or other trips. The way this was laid out would require some deft maneuvering for night time pee runs. We have also decide that if we are patient that we will not only find the perfect RV but we may have more money to invest on something we really want when the time comes. Finally, we are considering going the class B route...or possibly even a van conversion. All we really need is a comfortable place to sleep, a fridge, the ability to tow, and most importantly A/C. The rest in all icing on the cake. Thanks again for your help.

              !OhnO! & Chris
