Generator to battery to inverter?

I've decided the my gennie, a 1000 watt Kipor, can't really handle the start up load required by my fridge. Almost, but not quite. I've also got a 1400 watt inverter. My plan is this:

Deep cycle batteries, probably kirkland, maybe something else, but money is more of an issue than long life. I want to run the fridge, lights, etc, off of the batter(ies)y via the inverter, and charge the batteries via the gennie. That way, I can be selective in my noise generation and neighbor annoyance.

Can I run the gennie to the battery to the inverter all at once, or do I need to disconnect one before charging from the other?

you can still draw power from your battery as you are charging it, though it will take longer for the battery to reach full charge.

Paul's right, and I would add that this will work better for you because the battery will buffer the surges of your genset.

My guess is that you will run your gen most of the day, and get some downtime at night when it cools. Your fridge will cycle frequently during the day, and during off cycles the battery will get some charging.
