Hi,

Apparently the heating unit just decided to retire, the day before i leave for burning man. Mechanic says replacement will cost $900 plus $1-200 for overnight shipping.

Anyone know of any other alternatives?

replace the whole fridge for a propane burner problem? he knows you're under pressure and is trying to jack you...probably a pilot/thermocouple issue, and less than $50 to fix plus labor.

Obviously you could just punt, get a giant cooler and use ice if you had to and can't pull it together to get the replacement parts

No, not a propane burner problem...the motor unit or heating unit.... the main thing (i'm such a girl) I forgot what it's called, but apparently they don't make it anymore (it's a chevasse, or something like that) so there's no way to replace it. (Apparently an RV junk yard was sued when a water heater blew up and killed people and now you can't get used RV parts from them--can anyone confirm this???)

Yes, I can do the cooler thing, but i already bought all our food, including lots of frozen items and, yes, i've considered leaving all that at home and re-planning, and re-shopping and all that, but then we're still gonna need a new fridge, so I just decided to break into savings and go for it...

New fridge is being overnighted and will be installed tomorrow. Of course that means some remodeling because, of course, the new one is not the same size as the old one :-(

      Ah, well, such is life...
